The California Association of Food Banks’ Alliance to Transform CalFresh works to change the policies that impede qualified individuals’ from participating in the inefficient CalFresh system. In 2015, Alliance advocates began working with officials at the county level to link the CalFresh application process with that of Medi-Cal or Covered California; to push for same-day service for clients rather than the current 30-day waiting period; and to implement policies designed to reduce the cycling of clients in and out of the system. These efforts, and others like them, help increase the accessibility of CalFresh benefits and reduce food insecurity in California.
