Cal Performances is among the best-regarded presenters of performing arts on the West Coast. In 2015, it seeks to create a deeper, more consistent arts-education program by focusing on strengthening attending students’ artistic literacy—one of the National Core Arts Standards. Artists’ ideas and their processes for researching, experimenting, creating, and revising art will be at the core of the program’s curriculum. A grant from the Fund helps Cal Performances to develop the curricular approach, train a cadre of teaching artists and classroom teachers, and experiment with its program design. Cal Performances’ base on the University of California, Berkeley campus gives it immediate access to august intellectual partners as it develops this program.
