| Description | For years, Berkeley Repertory Theatre has offered East Bay schools subsidized matinee performances and multi-week “Story Builders” workshops, primarily attended by kindergarteners and first graders. The new director of its School of Theatre, observing that the program and its resources were too thinly spread to well-serve such young audiences, adjusted the program to focus on second- and third-graders. A newly developed curriculum will also serve fourth- through sixth-graders. These changes will provide deeper, more effective instruction, albeit to fewer students. Berkeley Rep anticipates working with 10 or more classrooms at five Berkeley and Oakland public schools in 2017. |
