Benevolent manages a new crowd-giving platform that enables individual donors to help people in need directly. Individuals with one-time financial needs of up to $700 make requests related to their economic security. They commonly ask for help paying for things such as computers, eyeglasses, licensing fees, and car repairs. Benevolent trains nonprofit case managers to help these clients prepare written statements and videos about themselves and their needs. Case managers then develop companion materials vouching for clients. Benevolent vets each request and posts them to its website through which the public can make tax-deductible donations. This grant helps establish a Bay Area branch of Benevolent, involving the community in personal philanthropy.
