Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network

Program Area(s)
Description

Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN) develops the parent leadership needed to transform schools in high poverty neighborhoods. PLAN works with individual school communities and at the district- and state-level to advocate for the programs, practices, and resources that make a difference in East Oakland schools. Within the Oakland coalitions in which Bay Area PLAN participates, it noticed a lack of teachers from the most challenged schools. With Fund support, PLAN is implementing a Family Engagement Teacher Fellowship program as a means to build the participation of these teachers. It will provide teachers with support, connections to community organizations, and encouragement so they can advocate for under-resourced communities.
