In collaboration with East Oakland public schools, Bay Area Parent Leadership Action Network (PLAN) trains parents to join community-building efforts designed to stabilize and improve schools. PLAN is working to expand an Oakland Unified School District program that supports teacher visits to students’ homes so that teachers can engage parents in their children’s academic development. It also partners with Oakland’s teachers’ union to highlight the benefits of teacher-parent collaboration and identify the supports teachers and parents need to collaborate effectively.
