Asset Funders Network recently launched an initiative to promote universal and progressive tax policies that support asset building among low- and moderate-income households on a large scale. As part of this effort, it assembled a committee made up of leading research and advocacy organizations. These organizations are all concerned about the growing economic divide and identify the tax code as part of both the problem and the solution. The committee developed principles, analyzed various policy reform proposals, and then generated specific tax-reform recommendations. In 2014, the group will educate key constituencies, including: additional advocacy organizations, those organizations’ memberships, funders, thought leaders, and policy makers.
