Anti-Defamation League (ADL), one of the nation’s leading civil rights agencies, has been responding to a rising tide of Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. According to its annual audit, acts of anti-Semitism increased by more than 86% in the first quarter of 2017 over the same period in the previous year, with the digital environment forming an epicenter of vitriol. In response, the ADL opened its Center for Technology and Society, working to generate public awareness and civic dialogue about the origins, spread, and effect of online hate; to leverage new knowledge and innovations from technology; and to be a trusted partner at a time when tech companies need to do more to reduce online hate.
