Alternatives in Action

Program Area(s)
Description

Alternatives in Action’s model community school in Alameda includes a charter high school, extensive after-school programs, a preschool, and other nonprofits providing services to youth. At the Oakland Unified School District’s request, Alternatives built out two other community schools, and then were invited to expand services at a fourth school. Alternatives in Action now coordinates programs at four full-service schools, providing for the needs of more than 1,500 high school students. It is poised to continue to expand its robust services, strengthening community schools in Oakland and Alameda.
