| Description | Kala Art Institute benefits artists with access to studio and gallery space. Its Artists-in-Schools program serves youth in the Berkeley, Emeryville, and Oakland public schools, several of which schools have a high percentage of newcomer and low-income students. Kala’s teaching artists work closely with classroom teachers to design multi-week programs that reinforce themes raised in other academic subjects. Kala Art Institute seeks to serve more than 2,500 East Bay students in 2018, with this grant helping it to respond to increased demand. |
