ABADÁ Capoeira San Francisco Brazilian Cultural Academy

Program Area(s)
Description

In 1991, one of the world’s top capoeiristas founded ABADÁ, a cultural academy bringing the Brazilian martial art of capoeira to San Francisco. ABADÁ provides advanced training, performances, and classes that incorporate acrobatics, improvisation, and music. The academy also instructs students through 32- to 38-week capoeira sessions at local schools. In 2015, ABADÁ expands to two new sites that serve large numbers of low-income students and continues its work at both three San Francisco Unified School District sites and at after-school and summer programs in the Tenderloin.
