Youth Art Exchange benefits students with instruction in a broad array of disciplines, from African drumming to architecture. Its classes are free, of sustained duration, and lead to ambitious projects for the organization’s low-income youth participants in the Outer Mission / Oceanview / Excelsior area. Students not only enjoy the opportunity to advance their skills, but also to play leadership roles in the organization. Each year, the Exchange hosts a youth-organized summit that unites out-of-school arts programs across the city. Youth Art Exchange is working to develop programming at more spaces and to provide arts programming in select locations during the school day.
