The Bay Area is home to nationally and internationally renowned African artists, many of whom eke out a living teaching classes and managing small dance companies. Bisemi Foundation develops the capacity of these small African performing arts groups. It is launching a three-part program that will begin with a boot camp for African American company leaders, build to one-on-one consultations with stipends paid to the mentors and mentees, and then focus on documenting participating artists’ work. These efforts address the need for arts organizations to build capacity in recent immigrant communities.
