Description

In autumn 2015, the de Young Museum will present the first exhibition of Hawaiian featherwork ever to be shown on the United States mainland—featuring approximately 75 featherwork capes, cloaks, leis, helmets, and royal staffs. To ensure appropriate cultural exchange, the museum recruited an advisory committee composed of local Native Hawaiians, giving them a voice in how the work will be presented. The exhibition and associated events aim to unite the Bay Area’s Hawaiian community with the general public, increasing cultural understanding and respect.
