Description

In 2011, San Francisco launched Kindergarten to College (K2C), a project of the San Francisco Office of Financial Empowerment in the Treasurer’s Office and the country’s first universal college savings account program for elementary school students. Under K2C, every child entering kindergarten in the San Francisco Unified School District automatically gets a college savings account with a $50 deposit from the city and county of San Francisco. Low-income students receive an additional $50, and additional incentives are offered to encourage families to save. K2C is now available at all San Francisco public elementary schools.
